Get to know the dedicated team behind Baba’s Feed Project! Today, we’re highlighting Chris, one of the co-founders whose passion for service and compassion has been a driving force behind our mission. Inspired by Baba Neem Karoli’s teachings, Chris’s journey is one of love, humility, and a heartfelt commitment to uplifting others.
What inspired you to start Baba’s Feed Project, and how has your journey been so far?
I was inspired by my dear friends and co-founders and our shared passion for helping people in need. Together, we wanted to give people their dignity back and inspire hope, especially during the most difficult of times—BFP was founded as COVID was descending on the world.
Of course, I was also deeply inspired by Baba Neem Karoli’s teaching, “Love everyone, feed everyone.” This message resonates with everything we do.
Can you share a memorable experience from your time with the project?
There are so many wonderful experiences since being part of BFP, but one moment stands out vividly.
In 2022, during the distribution of our millionth meal in India, Pintu organized a HUGE birthday cake. We drove out to a remote area where a small village of people lived in very difficult conditions. The children were so excited to have some cake, but what struck me was how beautifully and patiently they lined up, despite their excitement. It was probably the first treat they’d had in a very long time, but their gratitude for such a seemingly small gesture was so humbling.
Travelling to India twice to do Baba’s work is something I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams.
How do you incorporate the teachings of Baba Neem Karoli into your daily work?
Baba’s teachings go everywhere with me.
“Love everyone” is something I always try to keep in mind. As a manager at work, I aim to act out of love in my interactions with my team, loved ones, and others I encounter. Another of Baba’s teachings, “Tell the truth,” inspires me to live with integrity—whether at home, at work, or out in the world.
“Feed everyone” is a guiding principle that continues through the work we do at BFP. Even locally, if someone needs help, I do my best to assist and inspire my younger son to do the same.
What’s a fun or unexpected hobby you have outside of your work with Baba’s Feed Project?
Living in New Zealand, I’m surrounded by beautiful wildlife, beaches, and nature walks. I love to get out in nature as much as I can in my spare time.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself through your work with BFP?
I’ve discovered how natural it feels for me to involve myself in Indian culture and Sanatana Dharma, both when visiting India and at home.
I’ve also learned to self-reflect more and deeply appreciate everything I have.
If you had to describe your experience with Baba’s Feed Project in a single sentence, what would it be?
Absolutely life-changing and soul-fulfilling.
I honestly have no idea what I was doing before BFP! Learning about Baba Neem Karoli’s teachings completely changed my life.
Chris’s journey is a beautiful example of what can happen when love and service meet a shared mission. Her dedication to Baba’s Feed Project reminds us all of the power of kindness, humility, and compassion. Thank you, Chris, for your unwavering commitment to this mission and the light you bring to the world!
