Divine Strength and Sacred Devotion: Honoring the Spirit of Hanuman
As we continue our journey through the Hanuman Chalisa, we arrive at a powerful section that beautifully blends imagery of divine strength, radiant energy, and spiritual discipline. These verses deepen our understanding of Hanuman—not only as a mighty protector but also as a symbol of devotion in its highest form.
In these lines, Hanuman is described as carrying both the vajra (thunderbolt) and the dhwaja (flag)—symbols of strength and victory. The thunderbolt, a celestial weapon, represents an unshakable resolve and divine power. The flag stands for Hanuman’s allegiance to truth and righteousness. Together, they remind us that true power is guided by purpose and humility.
Draped across his shoulder is the sacred thread of munja grass, traditionally worn by brahmacharis. This small but meaningful detail speaks volumes about Hanuman’s inner life—disciplined, pure, and wholly devoted to the spiritual path. His might is never rooted in ego or pride, but in sacred service and unwavering loyalty to Lord Ram.
We also learn of Hanuman’s divine origins—born of Kesari and a manifestation of Lord Shiva. His brilliance, strength, and purity shine so brightly that he is honored across the three worlds. But his greatness lies not just in his power, but in how he uses it—with devotion, humility, and complete surrender.
Through these lines, Hanuman reveals the balance between force and faith, discipline and devotion. His character teaches us that it’s possible to be fierce and gentle, grounded and transcendent, powerful and selfless—all at once.
Maharaj-ji Neem Karoli Baba, who so many see as a living embodiment of Hanuman, radiated the same energy. Devotees often spoke of how his presence dissolved fear and awakened deep love—how he guided not with words, but through being. Just like Hanuman, Maharaj-ji’s strength was quiet, divine, and fully in service of others.
This part of the Hanuman Chalisa invites us to reflect:
How do we carry our own “vajra”—our personal power—with integrity and humility?
What does it mean to live with disciplined devotion?
Are we using our strength to protect, uplift, and serve?
Hanuman shows us the way. In his image, we find inspiration to walk the path of seva, to face life with courage, and to offer ourselves completely in love and surrender.
Jai Hanuman! Jai Maharaj-ji! 🙏✨
