Hanuman Chalisa Reflections: The Power of Speech and Sacred Protection

Verses 7–8

As we continue our devotional journey through the Hanuman Chalisa, the next verses offer insight into Hanuman’s divine voice, knowledge, and protective energy. These lines are not only praises but also reminders of what we, as spiritual seekers, can cultivate through devotion: clarity, truth, courage, and unwavering connection to the divine.

Wisdom in Action

These verses highlight Hanuman’s extraordinary intelligence (vidya) and virtue (guna). But his wisdom is not stored knowledge—it’s wisdom in motion. Hanuman doesn’t seek greatness for its own sake; he channels his brilliance entirely toward serving Lord Ram. This reflects the highest form of intelligence: using our gifts in the service of love and dharma.

In the presence of Neem Karoli Baba, many devotees experienced this same embodiment of silent, powerful wisdom. Maharaj-ji had no formal education in the conventional sense, yet could speak to the heart of any problem. His understanding came from direct experience, and his words often carried the force of truth without explanation.

Hanuman reminds us that true knowledge is not about accumulating facts—it is about deep listening, humility, and action aligned with purpose.

Delight in Devotion

Hanuman is described here as someone who delights in hearing the leelas (divine stories) of Ram—his heart immersed in the sweetness of divine remembrance. He is not merely a protector or a warrior; he is a rasika—one who savors the essence of love and devotion.

This verse reminds us of the power of sacred listening. In many devotional traditions, simply hearing stories of the divine (satsang) can awaken the heart and bring about transformation. Hanuman’s joy in listening teaches us that devotion is not just action—it is presence, attention, and longing for divine connection.

To dwell in the hearts of Ram, Sita, and Lakshman is no small thing. It means Hanuman has fully merged with their divine essence—and in doing so, he becomes a living bridge between their world and ours.

Living the Teachings

These verses call us inward:

  • Are we using our wisdom in service of something greater than ourselves?

  • Do we seek joy in devotion, or do we rush through it?

  • Can we listen—not only to divine stories, but to life itself—with the heart of Hanuman?

Maharaj-ji often said, “Serve with love. Remember God.” In these verses, Hanuman does both. He serves tirelessly, and he never forgets. He reminds us that a wise life is a devotional life, and that spiritual maturity is found in eagerness to serve and joy in remembrance.

Reflection & Practice

  • Chant: Read or chant these verses of the Chalisa slowly, letting each word sink into the heart.

  • Listen: Spend time listening to a story or bhajan about Hanuman or Ram—allow the beauty of the narrative to nourish you.

  • Serve: Ask yourself how your unique gifts—your “vidya”—can be used today in service of love.

Jai Hanuman! Jai Maharaj-ji! 🙏🔥
